The Bear Caves

New York

Description

Boulder field being developed. A lot of untouched boulders up to 20 feet tall.

Getting There

Park at the Mt. Seneca/Bear Caves Trailhead entrance. The trail entrance should be across the lot. When you approach the trail, keep left and follow the trail for about 6-7 minutes until you reach the boulders.

If you accidentally take the right trail at the beginning, you’ll eventually reach a split with tire marked trails, follow the trail up to an opening of grass with a small concrete structure in the middle. There will be a small trail to the left into the forest. Follow this trail until you see the boulders. First decent, climbable boulder will be a roof problem.

[Hide Comment] The Beer Can Crack located at the central courtyard area the trail leads you to with the large overhanging tunnel that leads to the other side, is the dividing line for the entire area. Routes are referred to as either "left" of the Beer Can Crack, or to the "right" of the Crack, as the Bear Caves are essentially a long wall that extends on both sides. Feb 20, 2017
