Bedrock Tower

California > Eastern Sierra > Bishop Area > Wheeler Crest > Mayfield Canyon Towers

Description

The lowest & rightmost of the Mayfield Canyon Towers, Bedrock Tower hosts a few 2-4 pitch routes on fantastic & featured rock. One could easily combine a route on Bedrock Tower with another 2-4 pitch route on the Tower of Babel, the wall located immediately behind Bedrock Tower, which is separated from Bedrock by a large 3rd class ledge system.

Getting There

Mayfield Canyon Towers approach. Expect 2 hours of steep uphill sand and bushwhacking to the base. Descent off Bedrock Tower is to the left on a 3rd class ledge.

[Hide Comment] I climbed a route here yesterday with my friend Josh. We started in the recess just to the right of the toe of the Bedrock Tower below a roof. It was 8 pitches to the top of the Tower of Babel following mostly chimneys no more difficult than 5.9, like a scrappier version of the NEB on Higher Cathedral Rock. Some of the rock on the upper half was similar to the furrows on Charlotte Dome, and with a satisfying summit. There was no sign of anyone having climbed it before and all we left behind was some webbing to make one short rappel off the backside into the gully. Jan 15, 2018
