Senator’s Highway Areas- Groom Creek

Arizona > Central Arizona > *Prescott Area > Prescott Bouldering*

Description

Senator’s Highway is the gateway to some of Prescott's best bouldering. This winding road passes the well known Goldwater Lake, as it weaves it's way up into the heart of the foot hills of The Bradshaw Mountains, just south of town.

Old areas such as the famed Groom Creek, and it's lesser known counterparts, Wolf Creek, and the Hassayampa River hold a treasure trove of both concentrated areas, as well as, more backcountry, exploratory areas. A lot of strong climbers have climbed here for a long time, and the list of excellent problems up here is amazing.

Getting There

Take Senators Highway from town and drive 7~ miles until you see huge grey boulders on the side of the road. This is Groom Creek.

[Hide Comment] Well I've tried to clean up these areas as best I could. I've organized Groom Creek with generous "areas" and boulder groupings. The info here on MP is enough to get you going up there, but if you really want to know what's going on, pick up a copy of Bill Cramer's Prescott Bouldering Guide. Again, a painstaking effort was put forth on his part to lay out these areas with incredible accuracy.

Please let me know if you come across any errors. May 18, 2015
[Hide Comment] Are these zones climbable in January? I am more than willing to shovel some snow and to climb in freezing temps. Dec 26, 2020
[Hide Comment] randy... they certainly can be climbable quite often in January depending in recent weather patterns Nov 29, 2021
