The Joshua Tree National Park Superintendent's Compendium states that:
1. Vegetation is not allowed to be used as an anchor.
2. Only neutral or rock colored bolt hangers are allowed.

Description

This area covers the large blocks of the Atom Smasher Boulders as well as the surrounding crags, including the prominent Timbuktu Towers and Ivory Tower.

Getting There

Hike the North Wonderland Trail past the Middle Kingdom Area as it turns east and grows increasingly sandy until reaching an intersection with another wash. Make a left, heading north, and then make a right (heading back east) passing through a rocky area which soon opens up and smooths out. Hooter Rock should now be on your right with the Atom Smasher Boulders further east and somewhat hidden from view. Keep sight of the Timbuktu Towers along the approach and it will be easier than it sounds. Plan on a solid hour for the approach.
