Description Suggest change

The boulders at Kahakuloa Head lay in the saddle between Kahakula Head and Pu'u Kahuli'anapa. Like everything else on the islands the boulders are volcanic in origin, but have a smooth sandstone texture. The boulders are highly featured with flakes, knobs, and honeycomb pockets, and a generous coating of lichen.

Getting There Suggest change

Drive Hwy 340 east of the sleepy town of Kahakuloa to a pullout, on the left, just past mile marker #14. Park in the turnout and walk north toward the ocean. The boulders are 100 yards from the parking area in a U-shaped valley that hangs above the angry ocean and the 'Au 'Au Channel.
