Description
From the north side of this group, Cima Grande is a stunning shadowed, overhanging triangular wall that dominates the center of the northern wall. When viewing the south side of Cima Grande it is not as prominent as the north face. The south face sits to the left (West) of the more obvious prominent arete near the center of the group which is Cima Piccola. This mountain boasts many world famous lines, extremely difficult sport climbs and occasionally a free solo ascent. Perhaps the most famous classic line being the Comici route on the north face.
Getting There
From the parking lot at the Rifugio Auronzo hut:
For the South face go right/straight along the large path/road below the south faces of the Tre Cime group hiking towards the Rifugio Lavaredo until you reach the Chapel a short distance up the path. Hike up the climbers trail through the talus/scree to gully/col between Cima Grande and Cima Piccola then to the base of your route.
For the West face, branch off the path sooner and follow a less well-defined trail up scree into the gully between Cima Ovest and Cima Grande to the base of the wall.
For the North face hike towards rifugio Lavaredo on the huge, busy path below the southern aspect of the Tre Cime. Continue past the Rifugio Lavaredo then up to the pass (Paternasattel), cross the pass then traverse back left along the scree slopes until beneath the obvious north face.
