Redstone Boulders

Colorado > Carbondale Area > Redstone Area

Description

Eds. This area could be split into Redstone Boulders (in the forest where the Stein, Big Easy, Barnacle, Butter, and Weider Boulders are), and River Boulders (where Corkscrew, Land Shark, River Boulders, and Riverside Boulders are.)

Getting There

Carbondale head south going towards Redstone. Turn at the first pullout on the left for the town of Redstone (the northern-most). After passing the fire station, slow down and start looking for a dirt road on the left leading into the aspens. It's really a nondescript dirt road, so if it looks really well used, it's not the one.

Per chris deulen: go through Redstone (follow the signs). Immediately outside, there's a sign (and a parking lot, on the right, none on the left, mind you) that says, "Redstone Boulders." Park here. Go back to the right 20 feet and take the road up to a trail on the left. Then follow directions as described by Kirk. You can't miss the trail on the right that goes up mountainside. Go past the first boulder to get to the Stein Boulder.

Per Kai DeLorenzo: the GPS coordinates are: 39.18786287225547, -107.23418028669461. It's very close (20-40 feet) to the intersection of East Creek Trail and Redstone Boulevard.

[Hide Comment] I had trouble finding the boulders this past summer. I'm not sure why, because the directions are pretty decent. However, if anyone is having trouble finding the parking lot, it's here: 39.18786287225547, -107.23418028669461. It's very close (20-40 ft) to the intersection of East Creek Trail and Redstone Boulevard. Dec 14, 2020
[Hide Comment] I found this and was pleasantly surprised. There were many to choose from, and this is just off the quaint town of Redstone. This was hidden although relatively easy to find using the GPS, although you can't park there, keep driving down the road about 1/4 mile to find a spot. My teenage son and I are just getting into climbing and would highly recommend for beginners, but advanced climbers could also find challenging routes here. Nov 30, 2021

[Hide Comment] Unsurprisingly, my party also got lost trying to find these boulders. The geo-tagged location of the boulders is accurate - this ended up being our saving grace.

Follow Chris' directions above. We tried accessing from the gated road ~1/4mi north of the parking area that has a sign for Redstone Boulders, but we should have simply taken the trail that goes right from the parking area. Apr 23, 2024
