Description Suggest change

This peak is the highest peak summit in Albany County and the highest peak in the Laramie Range. A wide horse and ATV trail was built/improved in the early 70's to better service the summit's communication towers. The 5 mile trail has a just <4000' elevation change of gentle angle but with much trail erosion from ATV use. The high temp for the summit was a record breaking 84F during one hot summer when on the same day temps greater that 105 in Douglas, WY. With the advent of cell phones a Verizon tower place here served the region well but was prone to lightning strikes and wind damage. The summit has now been abandoned as a communication peak except for solar powered repeaters--and these may now be gone.

The Laramie Columbine which is a very rare plant that is endemic to the Laramie Range can be found near the summit.

There was a 90,000 acre forest fire in very dry year of 2011 which burned high on south east sides of Laramie Peak and smoldered for months sort of the status "fire in control and bounded." The earlier fire of the very dry year 2002 burned the NE corner of Laramie Peak while a fire of equal size started a week later at Reese Mtn.

There are many pinnacle and minarets on the sides of Laramie Peak yet to be climbed. See the photos
