Hamilton Boulders

Washington > South-W & Tacoma > Columbia Gorge

Description

Hamilton Boulders is a newly discovered and well developed area just north of Beacon Rock. The rock is good quality, tends to be very featured. There is a little of everything at Hamilton Boulders. Boulders range in size from 6' to over 20'. There are multiple high quality roof lines that run from V5-V8, and a wide range of quality lines from VB-V11, with many in the V3-V7 area. Most of the boulders face the south, and get sunshine if it is out, so it is a viable place to climb year around. In the winter, if you go out after noon on a sunny day, then most of the main boulders will be in the sun and fairly warm.
There are 2 main areas. Refer to the Areas to find more info. Feel free to add more info if you know it. Explore! Find a good looking chalked line and go for it!

Getting There

The boulders are on State Park land, so make sure you have your State Parks Annual pass on you, as the rangers will ticket you.
From from Beacon Rock, drive up Keuffler road and take a right on the road that is marked for equestrian parking. You will come to a parking lot, park there, and then head up the road past the gate. The road will take a right turn and head uphill. Right before that, you will see a talus field on your left. There is a faint trail heading toward the talus field. Follow the trail and you will see a large boulder up the hill about 100' feet. The trail continues across the talus field to the left. Follow rock carins and faint trails across the talus field, and start climbing. Boulders are scattered throughout the field.

[Hide Comment] Hey Guys,
I checked out this spot on Wednesday and had a blast! There are some really nice problems and the trail getting in is great! I just wanted to make a note and a warning that there is a pretty sizeable hornets nest buried in the rocks right in the start of the Cheap Date problem. Be careful, they get pretty upset when you start to get close to the cave. Aug 28, 2015
[Hide Comment] I was hoping to stop by here this weekend on my way to Olympia. I was wondering if anyone had any good topos or any other helpful beta for this area they were willing to share. Thanks! Jul 20, 2016

[Hide Comment] There really isn't any other beta out there besides what's on MP. Just follow the trails in, and explore. Jul 20, 2016

[Hide Comment] There are many more routes than the 17 said by the website, just gotta do some careful trekking over the talus field. A book was just released that has an awesome guide to these boulders.
"Portland Bouldering" by Everett West. Also this website is pretty good for directions and general overview of different areas within a couple of hours from Portland/Vancouver. Place your pads well!

[Hide Comment] Honestly… I’m a very easy climber to please so I like goin to all the random lil spots to see what they got. If y’all have fun on these boulders then I’m happy for ya, but everything is a high dabby lowball. Not a single climb is high quality. There were a few boulder that were like okayish. Still had a great day, it’s a beautiful spot and I like going up rocks so I had fun. Just… if you’re looking for good climbing, go to any other location as my recommendation as a random guy on the internet nobody knows :).
