Description Suggest change

A couple rock buttress's North East of Armstong Pass. Most climbs face west, some south. Sunny and windy secluded destination. You will see mountain bikers on the way. The rock is granite of fair quality. Not many people climb here so bring a helmet and be aware of knobs and rock breaking off. On the climbs views of Lake Tahoe, Desolation, and Mokelumne Wilderness to be had. I do know that Fountain Place (aka Armstrong pass) was mentioned in a very old guidebook from about '73. It said that the consensus of the area was that the rock was not worth it for the hike, however I had an enjoyable time camping there recently. I did not put up the FA information because I don't know and I believe this area has been climbed before. I want to give credit where it is due so if you know of any history of the area please inform us on this site as I do not have this knowledge. Thank You.

Getting There Suggest change

From Meyers go towards Kirkwood on Luther Pass Rd. aka HWY 89. Once over Luther pass head downhill and make a left (the first one) onto a dirt road (paved for first 70ft) that goes to Horsethief Meadows (check out google maps or a real one for a better sense of where you are going). View Armstrong pass from the dirt road and park South East of the pass in a dirt parking area. Hike to the trail that goes up to armstrong pass. From the pass view the Buttress's towards the North East and consult the map to find your way or just go towards the rock. The best way is to cross country from the pass on gradually increasing uphill terrain along the north/west side of the ridge in the tahoe basin till you arrive at the rocks. In total it is about a mile from parking!
