Athens

Ohio > Southeast Ohio

Description

Home to some of the only bouldering in Ohio. Great day trip if it's close by with some definite classics.

Witches Front/Back and Trailer Park are the two more boulder dense areas with difficulty ranging from V0 to V7.

Route information, photos, and topographies are from the wonderful people at athensbouldering.blogspot.com/. Without them, gathering all this information in one place would not be possible.

Thank you so much!

Getting There

Athens is accessible from Route 32, 33, 50 and 56.

Most of the climbing is off of Route 33/50 or E. State Street.

I think this is Party Cave or close by. Definitely some potential here for a few test pieces

Top out is pretty chossy, downclimb is tricky

[Hide Comment] Went out for the first time to Witches. Beautiful location and plenty of potential. I found the map to be a bit outdated. I would rate most problems a grade or two higher. The sandstone is fairly soft so I assume it has changed since first graded. Advice: Use the map to get bearings but look for new problems. May 15, 2015

[Hide Comment] Isn't there a climbing area north of East State Street just past the outskirts of town? I climbed there back in 1981 with the OU Alpine Club. Aug 2, 2016
