Description

Kastri is one of the northernmost sectors on Kalymnos, and also one of the most unique. Its dominant feature is the ruins of a 4th century B.C. walled fortress, including a lookout tower, a cistern, and the base of an olive press. In many countries, Kastri would be considered a precious archaeological site, but in Kalymnos it's a well-trafficked crag with some nice slab by climbs and a couple especially excellent pocket-pulling routes.

Note that none of the routes inside the walled fortress have their names painted at the base ("to protect the integrity of the site").

Getting There

Drive north to the town of Emporios. As you enter the town, take your first right, which leads up a short road to a goat-gate. Enter through the gate and hike up the barely marked path toward the stone-walled cave above you.
