Access Issue: Climbing not permitted Details

Climbing is not permitted by San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department

From Brian Tickle, National Acquisitions and Texas Regional Director of the Access Fund;

"Unfortunately, I think Cub Cave is going to remain closed to climbing for the foreseeable future. There have been multiple efforts over the years by TCC and Access Fund to work with SA Parks and Rec to legitimize access. SAPAR is concerned that climbing will adversely impact nesting vultures, recharge of the Edwards Aquifer, carries too much liability, and will negatively impact the natural aesthetic of the park. Interestingly, SAPAR has not identified any federally listed endangered species in Cub Cave. If there's an opportunity to re-engage SAPAR on this issue, we will certainly take advantage of it. Sorry to not have better news."

From SA Parks "Please note that Cub Cave is NOT a publicly accessible cave and is NOT open to the public. Climbers discovered violating the City of San Antonio no trespass ordinance at Stone Oak Park will be referred to SAPD and may face prosecution. Please climb elsewhere.
