Description
Fairhead is a fabulous crag - if the place had better weather it might be as famous as Indian Creek! The cliff faces mostly north but it's usually possible to find bits that catch the sun. It is close to the sea but is non-tidal, as there are extensive boulder-fields beneath the cliff.
The rock is basalt, like at the nearby famous Giant's Causeway. There are lots of stunning crack lines up vertical or just off-vertical cliffs. This is Devil's Tower beside the seaside. Because of the hexagonal basalt formations the crack are not always simply parallel-sided but may have bits inside to grab hold of.
