Northwest Passage

Alaska > S Central Alaska > Seward Highway

Description

A nice place about 15 minutes off the road that has some fun shady climbs. Longer climbs make this worth the somewhat hellacious approach.

Rumor has it that Northwest Passage has been rebolted as of 2014. Whip away!

Getting There

Mile 4.8 past the weigh station. First pullout on the water side past Beluga Point, immediately after the Sunshine Ridge pullout if you are driving from Anchorage. Look for a small hidden trail that heads up into the woods directly opposite the pullout. Walk up the mostly scree field at this point until you reach an obvious cliff wall with bolts on it. Could use some major work in the trail building department.

View from the crag. Can be quite buggy and muddy but nice to be away from the highway.

[Hide Comment] Some long-ish, steep routes to be had here, along with a collection of some of the worst fixed gear (bolts) on the Highway. I'd avoid leading in this area until some replacement takes place. Jun 4, 2013
