The Fishnet Boulders

Massachusetts > N Shore > Cape Ann > Tompson St Rese… > Cavalry Boulder… > 2. Central Sector

Description

This is the furthest EAST cluster of boulders in the Cavalry Boulder Field Proper.

The tallest pointy one is roughly 25 feet tall and is easy to spot from the Alcove Area to the west when foliage isn't in the way. This area is named for a collection of fishing nets and lines that were once scattered about the base.

While the tallest boulder presents few worthwhile lines, the smaller rocks that lean against it offer some entertaining problems, including the gem of the Fishnet Boulders, the Fishnet Arete (V4).

Thanks to Derek S. for more accurate info on these problems.

Getting There

Follow the directions listed to get to The Alcove area by following the main Greenbelt path to Cavalry then splitting off and walking through The Valley and up the hill on the other side.

From The Alcove, you will head EAST and you can see the tallest boulder through the trees from here.

Note that the skinny tree right next to the tall boulder has since fallen. Few worthwhile lines exist on the tallest boulder, but the Fishnet Arete (V4) can be found around the backside and is an excellent problem.
