Getting There Suggest change

On Route 39, approximately 1.5 miles north of the Maury Monument wayside/picnic area, look for the Goshen Pass Natural Area Preserve. Park, then pay (?) for the day use permit at the information board.

Take the swinging foot bridge across Maury river, then turn right on the Loop Trail. After ~100 yards, you'll come up to a large sign for 'Goshen Pass Natural Area Preserve', as well as a small plaque with regulations, one of which is 'No Rock Climbing'. This, apparently, is the boundary line, and since the cliffs are further on, inside the NAP, they are included in the 'No Rock Climbing' ban. This went into effect in late 2020 - early 2021. On the main page for Goshen pass is a link to a DCR handout, which includes a map of the NAP.

The trail snakes around a tree stump, and then ~40 yards further cuts through a fallen tree (one big trunk on the left, two trunks on the right). Start looking to your left up into the woods and you'll see the left end of the cliffs. There is a little trail leading up there, but if you miss it just bushwhack.  Access to the top can be gained by going around the left side of a small 8' high outcropping (~30' before you get to the first tall cliff face) and following the climber's trail up the 'steps' to the top. Easy access to the top of the left-most climbs, but the hillside above the cliffs as you continue right is steep and covered with leaves, sometimes sloping right to the edge. There is a trail higher up, away from the edge, that provides a safer route to the intermittent outcrops along the top of the cliff. (based on recon trip in July 2022)
