The Ivy Wall
Rhode Island
> Arcadia Managem…
> Mt Tom
Description
A 13-16' vertical wall with some decent fun semi-highballs and traverses. Bouldering with good landings. This wall gets the late day sun and can be quite warm on colder sunny days.
Further left after broken rock is a taller face (solo or TR), with one named route, Full Time Adventure Climber.
Getting There
Off trail, but fairly close by. To get to here, head south from Rte 165 on the white trail (probably under 5 minutes). Just after you walk along the top of the Trailside Wall that drops off on your right, the trail will dip and then wind up between two rocky hillocks that look a little like something from Lord Of the Rings. Leave the trail to the right before these hills and hook around traversing below the right side of the right hill. Very shortly you should see the remains of a stone wall. This wall is right below the stone wall and several hundred feet down from the top of the hill, only a minute or two off the trail. If you get to the point on the white blazed trail where the stone thrones are, you have gone too far and the Ivy wall is directly down the hill to the west a few hundred feet.
[Hide Comment] The Ivy Wall- This is a good wall, gently overhanging to vertical, high enough to be fun, but not too sketchy, lots of nice holds and the landings are mostly good. It reminds me a little of the Dam Wall at LW, with no spray paint. It used to be covered with poison ivy but it seems to ne gone these days. As of Dec 2011 it could use a little brushing up, but is cleaner than most of the other walls. To get to it, head south on the white trail (probably under 5 minutes) Just after you walk above the Pine Line Wall on your right, the trail will wind up between to rocky hillocks that look a little like something from Lord Of the Rings. Leave the trail and hook around traversing the right side of the right hill. Very shortly you should see the remains of a stone wall. This wall is right below the stone wall and several hundred feet down from the top of the hill, only a minute or two off the trail. The GPS coordinates are 41.56972, -71.73417

[Hide Comment] I started cleaning this today and hope to get it finished soon since I can't work on my NH projects. The climbing is better than I remember and Mt. Tom is deserving of a resurgence. I'll start with this wall as it probably has a dozen good lines before getting to the micro eliminates. It is quick and easy to get to and has a good landing and setting for afternoon sessions, with a bunch of routes in the V0 to maybe V3 range. I hope others will come and give a hand. If we can get a few of these walls really shined up, then it will be worth people visiting and maybe then some of the other ones will get done. The area is only second to Lincoln Woods for quantity of accessable rock in RI.

[Hide Comment] Shaping up real nice. A little brushing here and there and this wall is golden. Can't wait to continue the full wall traverse. One could easily spend a day climbing here and there's quite a bit more within 5 minutes walk.
