Description Suggest change

Francois is a tiny remote town only accessible by boat. It has a population of 116, as of summer 2009 when I was there. This population is in decline as young people leave for more populated areas, and older folks pass away.

It is at the head of a fjord, with towering cliffs surrounding the entrance. Warm when sunny, it suffers from typically fickle Newfoundland weather. The rock is solid granite.

A particularly attractive spire, known as "the Friar" towers over the town and provides a birds eye view of it.

Getting There Suggest change

There is a regular ferry servicing the town which leaves from Burgeo on the South West Coast.

You can also come in on your own boat, but good luck finding dock space. You'll have to work out something with the fishermen who own the docks.
