Access Issue: There was lots of private land. Details

Per Randall Chapman: the private property that was near by was acquired by the BLM, and there isn't any private property for a few miles in either direction.

Description

Unaweep Canyon is better known for its rock climbing. There are a few ice climbs here located on the west side of the canyon. The climbs are visible from the road, but due to private land, deadfall, minimal use, and scrub oak, the approaches can be difficult.

Getting There

Unaweep Canyon is accessed by driving south out of Grand Junction on US Highway 50. In the town of Whitewater, turn south onto CO Highway 141. The climbs start appearing approximately 12 miles in. Potential for ice climbs for the next 25 miles. Until about 5 miles from Gateway.
