Description
Great beginner sport climbing area with many climbs from 5.8 -5.10, and several great harder lines as well. Throughout the day areas can change from sunny to shady so plan accordingly. Climbs have lots of interesting features like single finger pockets. At times it can be crowded due to the proximity to Bozeman and its short hikes. Please note the work to keep some flat built platforms on the otherwise unconsolidated hillside. PLEASE treat these carefully and don't try to make them collapse.
Getting There
From downtown Bozeman drive east on Main and merge east onto the interstate. Travel about 3 miles until you reach the Bear Canyon exit ramp. After exiting the highway take a right on Bozeman Trail Rd., and then a left on Bear Canyon Rd. You can also take Kagy Blvd. east out of town, go through the small village of Fort Ellis, and turn right on Bear Canyon Rd.
Follow Bear Canyon Rd. for a few minutes until you reach the end/parking areas. You can also park at the New World Gulch trailhead and walk up the road. Or just search “Bear Canyon Trailhead” and follow your map.
