Description
Needleseye, a newly created municipal park in Oak Hill (about five miles south of Fayetteville), is quickly becoming the newest hot spot for New River regional bouldering, route-climbing, mountain biking, disc golf, birding, and much more. This place is worth checking out, whether you want to boulder, find cool first ascents, search out beginner toprope walls, or just explore the maze of boulders, cliff lines, and passages. Pay attention to property lines while visiting, a short section of the cliff-line is not owned by Oak Hill, however, its boundaries are clearly marked. You may not know this, but purple-colored paint typically means private property and no trespassing.
Although a public park, this area still has a pretty wild feel. You may read more about the recent purchase here: https://www.wvlandtrust.org/rec-access/needleseye-boulder-park/
The City of Oak Hill has provided a GIS map website with much more info here: gis-cityoh.opendata.arcgis.…
Be cool, pack stuff out, and have fun!
Getting There
Find the Needleseye Road outside Oak Hill. Drive along past some houses and woods, until you see an obviously paved public parking lot on your left. Eventually, the City of Oak Hill will add new signage and restroom facilities. Follow the blue arrows along a gravel path past a newly constructed shelter and continue through the forest until you arrive at forest boulders and cliff-line.
