Olu Deniz Climbing

Google Olu Deniz and you'll find all the seductive photos of turquois water and sandy beaches you can handle. Actually go to Olu Deniz in the summer...and you'll be swarmed by "tourons" from all European countries (the British, especially, seem to like to retire here). It's better to go from mid-October into the winter, like we did this first week of November, or in the early Spring. We had 26 C-degree days and 20 C-degree water...perfect for deep water soloing.

Ten minutes outside the much bigger city of Fethiye, Olu Deniz boasts the nicest beaches in the area and is surrounded by tons of limestone. The water is super clear and very warm and the DWS around the area is quite good given the quality of the rock. The sea cliffs range from 20-60' and are often vertical; however, there are plenty of steeper sections. On vertical rock, the rock can be very sharp and spiny; on steeper rock, the rock is smooth and much more fun to climb. I am very sure there is no camping in Olu Deniz and I don't think the locals would be psyched if you did. There are many hotels in the area; only "The Majestic" is open in winter and, well, it's not very majestic. I think we paid $50/night there.

Again, I don't know the names of specific areas (if they even are named) but much of the climbing is obvious.
