The Towers

Arizona > Southern Arizona > Mt Lemmon (Sant… > Mt Lemmon (Cata… > 6 - Mid-Mountain > Munchkinland Area

Description

The Towers area refers to section of routes located on the far left end of the Munchkin Wall. This is the first bit of climbworthy rock you encountery coming down the rocky switchbacks at the end of the approach trail. You'll see a big dark alcove/cleft in the rock where the routes are located to the left and right. Situated at 7000', it faces northwesterly and is generally shaded until around noon in the summer making for a reasonably comfortable experience even when it's quite hot. For all intents and purposes, this is part of the Munchkin Wall and you can easily mix and match routes from this area and Munchkin throughout a day of climbing.

Getting There

From the general area description:
Drive to the end of the Rose Canyon road and park in one of the large lots, there is also some parking along the road if it is crowded. I think as long as you park by a blue dumpster, you are ok. From the slabs behind the (defunct) snack bar and picnic ramada, pick up a trail(about the top and middle of the slabs, maybe a little on the left side) heading north/east(the trail will go mostly east and curve south slightly) and take it to the ridgeline(crossing several fallen trees), then follow it to a clearing/slab. For the Towers, Wall of Marching Munchkins, and Wall of Dancing Dwarves, turn right and follow a short section of well-groomed switchbacks downhill to the climbs. The Towers is the first section of routes you come to at the bottom of the switchbacks.

[Hide Comment] There is now a large burnt tree that has fallen at the base of the Towers. This base area along with the general approach to Munchkinland could really use some trail work love! Mar 7, 2021
