Coosa Slabs

Alabama

Description

Very limited climbing, a few boulders, 1 short cliff, and "the slabs."

Getting There

From Wetumpka: Take US-231 north approx 5 miles to CR-222/Copeland road. Watch for signs that say to Jordan Dam/Swayback Bridge trail. Take a left on CR-222 and go north/west approx 1 mile where you make a slight left onto Jordan Dam road. There will be another Jordan Dam/Swayback Bridge Trail sign at this slight left. Once you pass the parking are for the Swayback Bridge trail, look for a small faded sign on the right that says "Jordan Dam downstream river access" turn left here and follow this road down until you can see the water. You will need to turn left to head to the boat launch area. Park there, and walk downstream about 80 yards.

[Hide Comment] So I have checked out this area as much as it could be checked out. I think there could be a really fun bouldery traverse that goes right over the water for some summer fun.

The rest of the bouldering potential is there, but the area would have to be cleared and landings would have to be built up around the boulders. If I am ever in the area longer then a week, I would definitely help make this a suitable place for climbing, but it is pretty limited.

People need to put some time in making this a good place to climb. I bet if a few people got really excited to climb locally they could potentially make some fun bouldering in the local Montgomery area.

For God's sake, could someone please think about opening a real climbing gym in the God ridden state! Nov 25, 2012
