Hills Creek Spires

Oregon > Willamette Valley

Description

Spires of volcanic tuff located east of Eugene, near Oakridge. The “trails” around the spires see few people so they are overgrown, slippery, steep, and sometimes dangerous. Accessing top anchors and rappelling is the preferred access, though the Arete and Westside of Main Street anchors involve sketchy exposed moves to access. Bring a wire brush to clean moss.

Getting There

Take HW58 to Oakridge. Just past the town, take a right on Kitson Creek RD. Follow Kitson CR for about 4 miles, take a left on FS-565 follow this for about 4 miles and park at small parking area at a gated road.

[Hide Comment] I spent the summer in Oakridge, OR and went climbing at Hills Creek a few times. I added some of the routes that I was able to get on. It's a beautiful place that is definitely worth checking out, although I will caution you with this. This is definitely adventurous climbing. If you are used to level belays, easy approaches and solid rock, this may not be the place for you. However, if you are looking for a place with no crowds with some sense of mystique, head on down.
Most of the routes worth climbing are 5.10 and above. Be careful of loose rock before making the first clip (from experience) as a fall could potentially be very serious here. Have fun, be safe.

[Hide Comment] Went up there beginning of October to a very overgrown path and area around the routes. Climbed Psych and had a great time although approach was very bush wacky and steep. Have good approach shoes or hiking boots at the ready. Views and rock were beautiful. It's very remote if you want a quiet, surreal experience. Recommend for the adventurous climber. Oct 3, 2020
