A series of large boulders are found about 1/8 of a mile before you reach Stone Lake. The largest that probably has the most bouldering potential, we'll call it Big Cube for now, could have numerous problems on each of its four sides. Not very clean - on some aspects, the lichen is a bit of a negative. Solid rock, flat landings, and a superb alpine setting with numerous camping spots near by, make this a great destination, even if the rock turns out to be a bust. Wish we had more time (and less rain) to figure out if there are any fun problems to work on. If you come this way, bring your climbing shoes, and enjoy all the rock in area. If you head up to climb Hamovi Tower, go mess around on this boulder after dinner or something.

From the Roaring Fork trailhead on the west side of the Indian Peaks Wilderness, hike 6.75 miles up to Stone Lake. Just 0.125 miles before you would reach Stone Lake (the lower) you will cross a large open grassy meadow with a few large boulders. The largest, Big Cube, at the east end of the meadow, seems to have the most potential for fun. The 6.6 miles to the meadow climbs from 8,300 feet to 10,600 feet on good trail.
