Description
The hike into this area is a little longer but generally more secluded than the much of the rest of Seneca. Many nice single-pitch climbs are here and several have fairly easy top-rope access. Use caution when scrambling up to set top ropes as there is much loose rock on the ledges.
Getting There
To get to lower slabs the trail is actually off the right of the Seneca Rocks hiking trail. Travel up the trail through two flights of stairs with steel and cable railings, past some wood fencing, and into the upper set of switchbacks. The hikers' trail will switchback left at a bolder. Look right for an obvious trail with a new sign directing you to the area. Follow the climber's trail up and past a short boulder with an nice hand crack in it (unnamed climb, but fun!) until you reach an obvious split, with one trail leading up and the other down. Following the branch leading up will bring you to the base of the obvious crack of Scuttle. Going down will take you to the toe of the buttress where Hayduke Shrugged begins.
If you continue along the base trail going south, eventually this leads all the way across to the West Face Trail, intersecting at the short block scramble (the "Hillary Step") below the South Peak - West Face.
