Access Issue: Climbing Regulations/Seasonal Raptor Closures Details

The Joshua Tree National Park Superintendent's Compendium states that:
1. Vegetation is not allowed to be used as an anchor.
2. Only neutral or rock colored bolt hangers are allowed.

Description

Located just up from the desert floor at the base of a rocky hillside and about 250 meters from the Scratch-N-Sniff Boulder. This is a huge boulder with a good selection of problems, several of which are highballs. The two best problems here are Miledi (V3 R) and K.D. Supreme (V4). Both sides of the boulder are sheltered being in the lee of the hillside but the north face can be chilly during the winter months. Easy descent down the west side, just left of the Warm-Down problem.

Getting There

Drive 2.1 miles from the Park entrance and park in a dirt turnout on the right; this is just past the turnout for the Scratch-N-Sniff Boulder. A trail leads from the pullout directly to the Miledi Boulder, which is the large block sitting low on the hillside to the west (right). A 5 minute walk and some easy scrambling at the end leads directly to the boulder.
