Ice Climbing
Provo Canyon has the highest concentration of ice in the Salt Lake and Utah county area. There are numerous lines on both sides of the canyon. However, most of the thickest routes are on the south side of the canyon, where it gets less sunlight. The two most popular areas in the canyon are Bridal Veil Falls and Stairway to Heaven. Both have a rich variety of climbs. This is where many of us learn how great the world of ice is. As the sport of ice climbing has grown in popularity, the canyons' routes have gotten steadily more crowded because of their easy access. Often times on a Saturday as you drive up the canyon you can see a dozen or more climbers all over the ice. But there's usually enough to go around. Great place for climbers of any skill level.
Getting There
Heading North or South on I-15, take the 8th North exit in Orem and head East towards the Mountains. This road takes you straight into the canyon on Hwy 189. From Park City, head south on Hwy 40 to Heber City, and then west on Hwy 189 into the canyon. Bridal Veil and Stairway to Heaven can be accessed by parking in Nunn's Park.
