BETA PHOTO: Prospect Mountain Bouldering Zones.

This area includes the Cracked Boulder, which houses a fun warmup and a beautiful V9 requiring powerful laybacking and some funky kneebar starting technique. This route is part of the Prospect Mountain Trifecta, along with Equalizer and Moai.

Getting There

Head out of town on CO Highway 7, and turn right on Peak View Drive at a big church. Head past Curry Drive (the road that leads to the Thumb/Needle parking area), and park at a teal water treatment plant.

Locate a trail just behind the building that leads uphill. Follow it for about 7 minutes from the parking area, up a series of steep switchbacks. One switchback takes a prominent left hand turn after heading north -- right in front of you is the Cracked Boulder, maybe 100 feet from the trail.

If you follow this trail all the way, you will wind up on the very top of Prospect Mountain.

PPs For Life V1+ 5  CO : Estes Park Valley : ... : Da Big Cheese
This is a fun traverse-ish climb that takes you from the bottom of the south face to the top corner of the west face of Da Big Cheese. The crux is probably a big left hand reach to a nice crack. Most of this climb is reachy, especially the sit-down-start on the south face.Sit-down-start on the south face, move up a little, traverse left, cross the arete to some crimps and a big left reach, and follow it with a fun throw to a nice jug to finish up. ...[more]   Browse More Classics in CO
