| I'm headed back to N. Iowa for Christmas and was hoping to check out some place new on Friday. Has anyone gone to see if any ice is forming here yet? Looking at weather history, it seems there has been a fair bit of moisture before this cold front. Additionally, I was wondering if it is still expected practice to approach Dennis and/or the other land owner to climb on the quarry wall? Any other beta a new Wyalusing visitor should know? Thank's guys! -Mike | FLAG |

| A good rule of thumb is that it takes three days of below freezing weather for S Wisconsin ice to form at the start of the season. Yes, you should talk to Dennis. | FLAG |

| Too warm...I would bet $$ no ice. And the rock sucks there, so the mixed would suck as well. We need more than three cold days to get ice there. The closest place to N. Iowa with ice right now is Sandstone Minnesota. It is farmed and there is WI 2+ to WI5+ lines there currently. | FLAG |

| It is possible there could be a wee bit of ice but it hasn't been nearly cold enough for nearly a long enough time yet. It takes a good couple of weeks of solid temps in the teens or lower actually as the water that seeps out of the perched water tables at Wyalusing is warm. This winter storm with all this wet heavy accumulation should help greatly to kick things off at Wyalusing. I am not making any plans to head over there and check out conditions until a week or two into Jan.. 2 Years ago we climbed ice there as early as Dec. 10th (if I remember right) and it was as early as I ever remember and the ice was great even that early. One friend was in Wyalusing camping in late November this fall and checked out the wetness level at both the RR Tracks area and in Dennis's quarry and he came back saying it all looked bone dry.... That's a bad sign.... We will see! Right now I am wasted from shoveling all morning... this 12+ inches of wet heavy stuff is just that.... I think I just lifted and threw 5000 pounds.... Dennis is a very gracious friendly guy but it is always a good idea to atleast stop in some time during a visit and say hello if he hasn't already been seen tool'n around. I don't always go say hello to him before climbing (or driving into park for that matter) but I make sure to thank him and perhaps leave the well loved (by him) 12 pack of Milwaukee's Best (or similar swill) Dennis's new quarry mate who now owns the other fenced half of the quarry is really nice 2 but you won't be likely to drive onto his portion of the lot so no need to ask permission from him for that but definitely before you wander over to the routes (if in) on his side..... | FLAG |

| FYI- I was up at the quarry before Thanksgiving talking to the owner of the quarry- Todd. Dennis is no longer involved, other than still living in his trailer. Water flow was good at that time. | FLAG |

| Ignore my previous comments... Todd must have taken over the whole quarry ownership? So Juggler? Does this change things yet for walking onto the property. Is Todd expecting a more straight-forward permission request? Has Todd up-graded the quarry like he has been saying in the past... i.e. running water over the edge? Just wondering. | FLAG |

| Todd and I talked a few days ago and I ma waiting for a pic from him. he said it is slow to form due to too much cold. Will know more soon. Thanks Yes, he wants to know who is coming. Just LMK and I will let him know. Thanks | FLAG |

| Wyalusing update. Routes on the tracks look grim with only a small sheet and not touching down by a long shot! Maybe with some warmer daytime air and cold nights it will all build up. Didn't look like much water dripping or flowing. Todd's quarry (Yes- no longer Dennis's) has two skinny pillars in the normal spots where Quarry Monster grows big from. There is a nice wider drape on the right side. A possible OK protected lead up this side. No ice of any note over on the right side of the quarry. Slim year so far.
