A quiet crag in the woods, yet easy to find. Great views across the quarry and Roznos Meadow to the Wisconsin River. Among the notable climbs here are "Magic Mushroom" (5.12b/c), "Double Jeopardy" (5.9), and "The V" (5.10 offwidth).
Getting There
This one is easy to find from above, even if you have never been here! Hike up the CCC trail, and back into the woods behind D'Arcy's Buttress. Follow the East Bluff Woods trail east down to the saddle point, and continue up the Ice Age trail until it levels out on top of the bluff. On the right you will come to a rocky overlook, 20 yards off the trail. Head down into the woods to the left of this overlook, and within about 50 yards come out among the trees on top of Vulture Overlook. The best access to the base is probably back to the west along the edge of the boulder field (the Western Cwm boulder field).
You could also come up from below, passing by Crashing Rock, Lost Temple, and Red Nose Wall.
The Classics
Mountain Project's determination of some of the classic, most popular, highest rated routes for Vulture Lookout:
We parked at the lot off Hwy DL that also serves the "Stienke Basin" area and hiked the service road straight south to the intersection with the Ice Age Trail. Make a left and up the hill to the overlook, there is a slightly worn trail a little further that will take you to the top of the wall. Access to the west side.
