I still want one on shitty days, and when I drink, but I haven't quit this long since I was forced to in boot camp in 1994, so FUCK THAT. Thanks for all the help, stories and words of encouragement. After two decades (almost, 1 year shy) I'm free of those damned things. The only reason I started was because someone offered me one when I was high and it was sublime. WEED: the gateway drug to nicotine. Just say no- to nicotine, not weed. That would just be silly. Thanks again everyone. | FLAG |

| Jake I was starting to like you until you blamed weed for getting you started smoking cigs. WTF I'm not a pusher but just quit the cigs and smoke the green. Maybe it's just me but I know a few dudes who say that if you climb without smoking the ganj your not doing it right. Take this as my brand of humor...someone told me it doesnt come across the web for some reason. | FLAG |

| I used to smoke and at first it was fine, I played ultimate Frisbee and biked everywhere. After almost 30 years the damage was done. I was having to rest taking the kids to the black hole in Morrison. I am still trying to recover and I have been quit for about 4 or 5 years. My advice is if you have not started, don't. If you do smoke, quit because it will eventually ravage you and you won't even realize it. | FLAG |

If it's ok though, I'll do what I feel is in my best interests and not worry about who climbs harder than me. Thanks for your input though, I had no idea those guys smoked (except for Woods), but I knew they climbed hard. So only fifty percent of your information is absolutely useless. The other half is just mostly useless. | FLAG |

Take this as my brand of humor...someone told me it doesnt come across the web for some reason. It's all good man. It was mostly a joke, but that is truly the reason I started. But both my parents were hardcore smokers, so it probably would have happened eventually. I stopped smoking weed over a decade ago, when my ex became pregnant with my daughter. Thought it was the responsible thing to do. | FLAG |

| Thanks Darren. I told myself that after almost 20 years of smoking, if I could quit for a month, and make it through a night of drinking whiskey without begging for one, I'd be successful. So far, so good. I've come close a couple times- you know, prick client at work, wife being- well, you know. But now that I'm not coughing shit up anymore and my endurance has improved, it's just more motivation to keep going. Seriously, some people that come to this site do so just to entertain themselves with anonymous conflict. On the other hand, a lot of people come here to contribute, and help people out. I struggled with quitting for a really long time. It has been a very arduous and disappointing process most of the time. I've received a lot of unexpected support here, from people that I've never met, and I thank all of you sincerely. I apologize to the OP for hijacking this thread into a support group for me. It wasn't my intention, but thank you too for starting the thread. | FLAG |

| I've never met a cig smoker who, over the long term, didn't wish they never started. Where I grew up smoking was never "cool", but Copenahagen was. If you didn't have that circle in your back pocket, you just weren't the full blown redneck you could be. Redman or Levi Garrett would get you a pass, and was viewed as somewhat old school. Cigs were just nasty. Which is kinda funny when you think about it, the guy carrying around a cup of spit is looking down on the one smoking...it's all nasty. Good for you Jake. Hang in there. | FLAG |

People that have never had an addiction that enveloped both physical and mental aspects can't realize what an accomplishment it is to have put down that addiction of your own free will- not because you were forced to, but because you wanted to for yourself. Good job dude. Two years is quite the milestone. | FLAG |

| Ironic (to me) this thread surfaced. 29 hours strong no cigs here. When I turned 30 and my girlfriend was pregnant I quit, made it a whole year and a half then thought I could have one once in a while. Before i knew it I was a half pack a day smoker again. Then I decided once again to quit last November. Laid off the cigs for exactly 89 days before caving under the stress of divorce, relocation, and all the fun that came with it even though I swore I wouldn't. Things are more stable again, not to mention at this point I either have enough money for gas to go climbing or cigs, so here's goes nothin again. I usually find the first few weeks easy. It's after the physical part subsides that i struggle. We'll see how it goes. | FLAG |

You did it before, you can do it again. As long as you keep fighting, you're ok. It's the people that are resigned to it that are doomed. | FLAG |

| 100% behind u for dropping weed for family reasons. I dont have any children so I can be immature, irresponsible, and do whatever feels good at the time. I plan on paying for it in the future but I also dont want to live long enough for someone else to be wiping me. Maybe I'll take up smoking when that time is getting near LOL. As for you good luck kickin the habit! | FLAG |
