My mom just moved to Saint Louis. Any suggestions on where the closest and/or best climbing is for when I visit? trad up to 5.10a - ish and sport in the 11, 11 + range is particularly tasty but any climbing is good climbing. thanks!

You'll be hard up to find any climbing in Missouri. Your best bet would be to head down to Horseshoe Canyon Ranch in Arkansas.

Look into southern Illinois (Jackson Falls, Draper's Bluff, etc.) Plenty of quality stuff down that way.

there is some really good (and sharp) bouldering at Elephant Rock State Park, which is about an hour and a half south-west of St. Louis.

As far as near St. Louis goes you have several bouldering options. Your best areas will be SoIll... Johnsons shut-ins isn't too far but it is still closed for cleanup after the damn broke a few years back. Some stuff in Columbia which isnt too far but those areas have been closing. There are a lot of good prospects all along the MO river but they are all private property, and nobody has got around to approaching all of them...

Ya, I'm way off. I didnt check the distance. Horseshoe Canyon is like 5 hours. Southern IL is was closer. Only 2.5 hours to get to Jackson Falls.

Ditto Doug Lintz...JF is pretty cool...my advice...enter canyon by falls go right and do Group Therapy 10b. Pack up and go down to railroad rock and do Fragile Egos 10d...then Wild at Heart 11b...then Blue Velvet 11d. These are all quality routes...
