Outdoor there is Devil's Lake (Beautiful quartzite, 2.5 hrs away) and Mississippi Palisades (Crumbly limestone, 2.5 hrs away).

A bit farther is Southern Illinois (sandstone, 6 hrs away) and Red River Gorge, KY (sandstone, 7.5 hrs away)

The premier gym in the Chicago area is Vertical Endeavors in Warrenville, but there are other decent gyms in the area too.

Send me an e-mail and I'll steer you towards an active group in the area.

There isn't much at all close to Chicago for rock. Plastic, yeah. From friends & family, it's been a cold winter in WI, so Devil's Lake might be alpinish.

Yeah, it has been a cold winter, and I haven't been to the lake yet, but it's pretty warm right now around Baraboo. It's supposed to be around 65 on Tuesday, and you said you're going to Chicago in a couple of weeks, so Devil's Lake might be an option.

I was at the Lake on Saturday, and it was gorgeous. 50s and Sunny, but it is the midwest so there could be four feet of snow and below 0 temps in two weeks...
