I would buy a 70m (or 80m) half (or twin). That way, you can double it up for leading short pitches or mountaineering routes by tying into the center. Then you have the ability for 35-40m raps. Works great on things like The Grand and such, where you would only need 1 really skinny rope for the day. Can use it for a tag line paired with a fatter rope too, and still have the safety of having a dynamic if the lead rope gets damaged/stuck.
I've gotten my last few ropes from backcountry.com for pretty good deals. Look at the Sterling Photon 7.8mm.
If you wanted to go with the cheap route Sterling Ropes has tag lines pretty cheap. Approx $120 for a 75m 7mm. I just got done doing the same search and found this to be the best deal. You could just get 70m of 7mm cord but it only comes out to be about $10 cheaper and I had the hopes of the sold as "tag line" being better for that purpose.
They also have 6mm and 8mm options.
Don't get the Sterling tag line. I've read that because of it's stiffness (advertised as such) it just turns into a rats nest of knots.
