When did Ropes get so $Expensive$, any website deals?
It's been about 2-3yrs since I purchased a new rope and I am now due. |
Sierra trading post occasionally has edelrid 9.8 ropes for 104 dollars. That's the best deal I've seen. |
found this website the other day pretty helpful |

Thanks EthanC and Kirtis!! |

Chris, |

Check out steep and cheap: steepandcheap.com/gear-cach…. They have a Sterling Velocity 9.8 x 70m for $158. Good to see you yesterday :) |
If you can deal with a little thicker 60m |
Campmor.com, |
Starling has always been overpriced IMO. They make reasonable ropes, but I have always found equal quality elsewhere for much less. |
for those in canuckistan ... tendon dry ropes are on sale right now at lacordee |

I am a sterling rope guy, and I was quite shocked when I pulled up my usual cord on sterling's site to find that the marathon/biathlon pro (10.1 X 70M) is $325...wow. I paid exactly $100 less 2-3yrs ago. sterlingrope.com/c/climbing… So does anyone know of some super high-secret website where I may score a deal? Thanks! If you go for a 9.8, not dry treated and not bicolor, the Sterling Evolution Velocity 70m is $238. sterlingrope.com/c/climbing… |

Might as well get my rant on... |

what happens to a bi-pattern rope when you need to chop off one end ... hmmmmm |
$300 for rope seems a bit much !? BUT I think you generally get what you pay for... |

It might be more expensive to treat the ropes with different chemicals. They are also getting thinner and might require more R&D to achieve UIAA requirements. Perhaps more testing is being done to ensure quality. |

Perhaps more testing is being done to ensure quality.its the demand from yuppays who think they need an ultrathin duodess dry treated rope for basic TR cragging ... a "basic" rope is fairly cheap you can always find deals even on mammuts where they are ~100-150 yankee dollahs MP deals however if you want a "top end" fancy rope that honestly wont last any longer than a good 10mm+ for cragging purposes and wont allow you to climb any harder unless yr climbing well into the 12s and above ... you pay $$$$$ now if you are using these ultrathin duodess dry treated rope for light and fast situations where they are meant or yr hardest redpoint attempts, you probably wont be pulling them out every climbing day 200+ days a year ... so they should last a bit longer i have a pretty fun time listening to newish climbers brag about their TC pros, dead bird harnesses, and that 9.2mm dry treated duodess rope that they use to TR that moderate climb ;) |
