I am looking for any locals that can tell me how the weather in the spearfish canyon area is this time of year. A buddy and I are thinking about heading out there in 2 weeks and I am wondering if it will be too hot to climb. I am assuming that there are areas to escape the sun so any info about that would also be great.

The weather in Spearfish Canyon and all of the Black Hills is quite good this time of year. If by chance its hot shade can be found easily. Check out blackhillsclimbingguide.com for guide book info. The new book will have all the shady crag beta and much more.

Just returned from a trip to spearfish on wednesday. The weather was beautiful. Definitely warm in the middle of the day without shade, but very pleasant in the morning and evening. Finding shade was not a problem. Big Picture and Mohican were shady in the afternoon, and a couple of the newer crags were shady all day.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
