DescriptionBlack Peak is located in the north Cascades, close to highway 20, and is one of Washington's tallest non-volcanic peaks. The quality of the rock is uninspiring, but the short approach and excellent views from the summit ensure that there are at least two popular routes up the mountain. Getting ThereTake highway 20 to the Lake Anne/Heather Pass trailhead (around MP 157). Follow the trail to Lake Ann, bearing right first where the trail forks, then bear right up higher, toward Heather Pass. Drop down the other side of the pass, on snow early season or talus late season. Continue first to Lewis Lake, navigating around the lake (on the left if there's snow, or on the dirt trail on the right) and then climb up among trees to Wing Lake right under the peak.
