So is Tech Wash and other Nikwax cleaning products worth the extra expense for general cleaning of outdoor gear (soft shells, down, synthetics) or is any gentle detergent like Woolite going to do the same job? Not talking about the waterproofing products to restore DWR, or cleaning a rope, just general cleaning of outdoor gear.
A small amount of Woolite diluted in a bucket of water is recommended by the manufacturer as the safest cleaner for the Sunbrella fabric on my pop-up camper. This (along with a thorough rinse of clean water) is to protect the treatments used for waterproofing and UV blocking. Women have been cleaning their dainties with this product for decades without damaging their undergarments. IMO you will most likely wear, poke, or burn a hole in the fabric before ever destroying it with Woolite.
