Access Issue: Private Property issues Details

The West Bank / Wild West / Secret Crag has been problematic for years due to access concerns. There have been negative encounters with gun-toting landowners who have alleged that the entire mountain is on private property. Typical approaches involve brief crossing of railroad property which appears to be prohibited.

Exact demarcation of property boundaries are not always clear. When in doubt, be discrete or polite.

Do not park your vehicle near the railroad tracks near Plainview. It is a well-known irritant to Plainview residents.

Access Issue: Raptor Closures Details

This small crag is subject to the same raptor closures as for Mickey Mouse Wall, Cave Rock, and some of the other crags on Eldorado Mountain. Typically, it is closed February 1- July 31. Occasionally the closures are shortened or lengthened. Check with Boulder Mountain Parks and Open Space for more details.

Description

This is a tiny crag with a couple routes and some potential for other lines. It lies below Mickey Mouse Wall and Cave Rock on the south side of Tunnel 6. It is below the railroad tracks.

There are 2 established bolted lines here, as noted on p. 101-2 of Richard Rossiter's 2000 Rock Climbing. Eldorado Canyon. There is some potential for creative folks for other lines here.

The GPS spot is a guess based upon satellite imaging. It's pretty close, but use common sense if you don't match your device to this crag.

Getting There

Take CO 170 past CO 93 heading towards Eldorado Canyon SP. Look for a small sign indicating the Yoga Ashram on CO 67. Drive up the gravel road a short distance to a gate. Park on the east side of the road.

Hike up the gated road, up 3 switchbacks to a fork. Head south at the fork. Continue to the bridge and intersection with the Goshawk Trail. The Goshawk Trail heads west and then north. Follow it to a sign that indicates climbers' access and "Dead End Trail." Follow the trail up to the west side of Tunnel 6. Hike around the tunnel and drop down a short distance to find this small crag with an overhanging west face.
