Volunteer opportunity in Argentina

My nonprofit organization that does work in Argentina is starting a rock climbing-mentoring program for lower class youth in the city of Mendoza. Two U.S. college students were planning on spending June and July in Argentina, helping me to start the program. However, those plans fell through. I've decided at this late moment to try to find several students who want to commit to this project - for several reasons, I'm only wanting to consider current college students (if that's not you, please think of anyone you know who might be interested).

The purpose of this mentoring program is to teach the youths character traits, values, ethics, discipline, and perspective outside their barrios. We will use the instruction of rock climbing as a way into their lives, and the rock climbing instructors will serve as the mentors.

We are in the start-up phase, and volunteer assistance would be invaluable. The students will work closely with the direction of the executive director of the organization, but will be given responsibilities in consulting with stakeholders (the youths, climbers, parents, etc.), designing the mentoring program, and creating the business plan and budget. This will provide them with excellent first-hand exposure to what is involved in beginning an international nonprofit.

This is very short notice, but it will be an amazing educational, cultural and personal experience! If interested, please reply with a cover letter stating in what ways you feel you can contribute to this project, as well as your Spanish language ability and understanding of mentoring. You need to be reasonably proficient in Spanish (though not necessarily fluent) so that you can communicate with the youths and climbers.

Note that this will be a volunteer position. Our organization is fairly new and will not be able to provide compensation. You will be expected to cover your own expenses (transportation, lodging, food, etc.) but if needed, some financial assistance may be available to help defray these expenses.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
