Would anyone be so kind and post some climbing beta for the NE Virginia area.... looks like I am probably moving up near D.C in the next few months. I typically boulder and will be looking for partners in the area. Thanks

On of my friends just moved down that area about a year ago. He doesn't have much of a presence on this site, but you can PM him, goes by the name "Budd Rick" on here.

If you're looking for indoors, Earth Treks in Maryland is legit. If you're looking for outdoors, you have some great areas in Shenandoah National Park. "Climbing Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland" guidebook by Horst is pretty essential for finding some places if you decide to venture out for variety. Best of luck to you!

I am not sure if this would be near you, but check out blueridgebouldering.com. I've only ever bouldered there once (The Forest) but it is a totally legit spot with some sweet problems on solid stone. I have seen pictures of cliffs there also with some nice looking stone that offers gear and bolted routes.

Hey Jeremy,

As the other guys said, it depends where you end up living. The really decent bouldering is up in Shenandoah in the Old Rag Mtn vicinity. That's not to say there aren't little things here and there around the NOVA/DC area...there certainly are. You can boulder at Carderock and Great Falls...actually it's more like free-soloing really; I take the crashpad for the hell of it. I believe Patapsco State Park also has some bouldering too. Moorman's down in Charlottesville is cool but that's a heckuva drive for what's there.

PM me sometime when you get in town if you want to climb together and I can introduce you to some of the bouldering crowd I know. I'm also the Chairman of the Mountaineering Section of PATC, a local climbing club that's well ingrained in the regional climbing community (www.patcms.org).
