Description
The Acropolis / Vinyl Village is, like Grey Mountain, the Rock Gardens, or McIntyre, a good local climbing area located close to downtown Whitehorse. It is located in a valley floor, and is thus relatively shaded. Like most places in the Yukon it doesn't see much traffic. The rock is granite.
Getting There
I've been parking at the small blue building on Winze Pl (google maps says it's 33 Winze Pl). To get there, you take Robert Service from downtown, which becomes South Access. After the Alaska Highway, turn right onto Hamilton Blvd. Then turn left onto Falcon Dr, left onto North Star Dr, right onto Drift Dr, and right onto Winze Pl. From here, pick a mountain bike trail that's in the forest (you'll see wooden ramps and stuff), which will lead to a tree fort area. Keep heading in that direction. You'll eventually come upon the rim overlooking the valley. From here you should be able to spot the granite spire jutting out of the ground, and figure out your best way down. Not the best directions, I know, but they're what I've been doing.
