Hey there! Heading to Ha Long Bay area for some climbing come December, and the guidebook (Vietnam: A Climber's Guide) seems to be out of print EVERYWHERE. Does anyone have a copy they'd be willing to sell/lend, or know where I could find one?? Would pay for shipping, of course.

I have one that I would sell you. We were there in February 2012 so it's probably the most updated version. Send me a message and we'll go from there.

I am actually wondering the same thing and am headed there in April. Anyway you'd be willing to sell me the copy when you're done Sabrina?

It's not out of print. The latest guidebook is only being sold in Vietnam. It's easy to pick up at Asia Outdoors when you arrive.

My buddy Erik who started that company may have a few here in the US to sell but IDK if they are the most up to date... I'll get in touch with him if you want, let me know.

The guidebook, as of right now, IS out of print. Glad we brought ours--Asia Outdoors is in the process of getting an updated one published, so they no longer have any copies.

Therefore Melissa, I'd be more than happy to sell you the copy. Message me privately for more info!

Thanks for your help, guys!

I am in search of a Vietnam climbing guide. Anybody have one or know where to get one? We are headed there in January.

Ditto! Anyone have a spare copy or scans or anything?

Cheers,
Brett

(P.S. KellyF – we'll be there Jan 24 – Feb 1, but no schedule set yet. You have any suggestions?)

We went about 6 months ago just got all our climbing beta from Asia Outdoors on Cat Ba Island.
The only guidebook that was printed at the time (they had for sale) but they also had a store copy with all the new routes in it. The routes have probably doubled. You can either just look at their copy or buy one and mark all the new routes.

I would say a good portion of the established climbing in Vietnam is on Cat Ba. You can rent a moped for 3 bucks to get to the "home crag" in 20 minutes or get Asia Outdoors to help take you to some of the boat access crags.
I can't remember the name but we did some fun multipitch climbing near Tiger Beach.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
