Description Suggest change

Veterans Park is located in Springfield, Ohio, and within walking distance of Wittenberg University. Bouldering is allowed at the park, and in the summer you can also check out some live music at the outdoor amphitheater in the park.

There are a few large freestanding limestone boulders to climb, and some route information available on this site. Though there is a history of climbing here for years, the established route information is not well documented (if you have any info, please feel free to add it here).

In early August 2020, the OCC hosted a small workday to clean off the top of the right boulder, so the top out potential on that one is much better (just watch out for poison ivy on the far right side). The backside of both freestanding boulders were also cleaned up so you should be able to easily access the back trail. The Frathouse Rock (left, taller boulder) will hopefully get cleaned up later in Fall 2020, but you can climb the front and sides of the rock without much issue. Topping out on this boulder will be much more difficult though as there is a lot of vegetation on top and it has a more severe angle.

The boulders get a lot of sun, so could be climbable when it is too cold to venture out to the southside of the Mad, but the bottoms tend to stay wet for a few days after a good rain. You may encounter some loose rock since this area hasn't been climbed much in recent years, but will cleanup nice with more people checking it out.

The park is managed by the National Trail Parks & Recreation District. More information can be found on their website: Veterans Park Bouldering.
