Description Suggest change

This quiet, south-westerly facing cliff located in the southern Hautes-Alpes region, hosts over 120 sport climbs ranging from grades 5a to 8b+. Most of the routes can be done with a single 70m rope and 12-14 quickdraws, and are generally about 25m high. The routes range from technical slab-fests, vertical face climbing, to very overhanging gymnastic climbs all on good to excellent quality limestone. With a steep 45 minute approach, stiff grading, and humble international status, this cliff is destined to forever rest in the shadow of its nearby neighbor, Ceuse. The southernly aspect of Ventavon naturally makes it more of a winter or cool cloudy day destination.

Getting There Suggest change

From Gap, head south on N 85 for about 10kms to the roundabout, here take route D1085 direction La Saulce. Folow this for another 15km until you come to an intersection for D 942 direction Laragne-Monteglin, take this left, cross the bridge and follow this road for another 1 or so kilometers and take a right on a small road in between apple orchardes marked 'la haute graviere', 'bricou', 'le villard' etc. Follow this road up for a couple kilometers following the signs which say 'escalade' past the gite 'maison de la fountaine' and finally crossing a small bridge to a small dirt parking on the right. The trail starts at the end of the parking. About 45 minutes or so of steep hiking leads to the cliff. The first sectors you come to are 'la pierre plantée' and 'marche a l'ombre'.
