So here's the scoop. I may have spilled some vegetable oil on my rack... I'll spare you all the embarrassing details, but does anyone know what effects veggie oil has on both the cams and the nylon and dyneema slings? Washing the cams is the easy part, but I'm mostly interested in the slings... Cool! Thanks.

Absolutely no effect on the slings. But veg oil over time can make VERY tacky gums which will mess up the cams' action. Hit them with some Dawn in hot water ASAP.

the oil will prob make for a dust/dirt magnet too....not the end of the world, but might want to give them a good wipe down the first few times so dirt doesn't start working its way into the fibers.

I'd soak the slings or the whole cams w/slings in some warm water to get the vegetable oil out. Work the cam slings with your fingers while they are submerged. I think the gumminess and dirt attraction is something I wouldn't want to stay on there. Not because it's dangerous, but sticky.

I could just stuff the slings in the fuel tank on my veggie oil running Mercedes.

They've already picked up an extraordinary amount of grime. Washed 'em, lubed 'em, and I think we'll be good to go..

I've had surprisingly good luck with cat piss for counteracting the effects of oil spillage. Try that.
