Notch Lake

Description

Notch Lake is a beautiful area away from the crowds on the Good Medicine Wall. It requires a longer approach but you will be rewarded with lakeside climbing on the getaway wall in an amazing alpine setting.

Getting There

The Notch Lake trail starts off of Highway 150 just past Mile Marker 29 if you are coming from Kamas (northbound) at the "Bald Mountain Trailhead." There is ample parking and a pit toilet at the trailhead. Basically follow the trail toward Bald Mountain for a short way and then go left when the trail forks (there isn't a sign for Notch Lake but the fork is obvious). Hike this for about 2.3 miles to the lake.

Pulling the roof

Wine of Purity 5.11a  UT : Uinta Mountains : ... : The Getaway Wall
Find the holds that will get you over the roof, then figure out how you are going to get to the next bolt, which is five or six feet left of you and up. After that it's long reaches and high stepping to jugs and an "oh crap" move to finish. Really great route!...[more]   Browse More Classics in UT

Try the DWS along the west side of the lake. From the routes traverse right along a large ledge making a couple of scramble moves to get started. Keep traversing along the bottom of the wall, V1, with many 15'-25' exits. Some large loose rocks about 3/4 way along the traverse make it interesting but over all the rock is good quality. Enough fun to leave the rest of the climbing gear and just bring the shoes, chalk bag and a towel.
